We’ll show you how to fix Apple Configurator 2 Personalization Failed error. Apple Configurator 2 is a utility found in the App Store on MacOS that allows you to perform a number of functions on iPhones, iPads, etc. You can Supervise an iPhone for an enterprise, you can perform iOS updates without using iTunes, and also wipe devices.
Recently, I came across an error while trying to perform an iOS update on a new iPhone 11 Pro while using MacOS Mojave and Configurator 2. The iPhone was on the setup wizard and wouldn’t perform the iOS update over the air (OTA). The exact error is similar to the screenshot above, which states “Personalization failed [com.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore-0xFBB(4027)]“. After searching, I found a few references to the error, but no real outlined fix. Fortunately, I was able to resolve the issue using the steps below.
Fix For Apple Configurator 2 Personalization Failed 4027 Error
- Close Apple Configurator 2
- Open Terminal
defaults write -g CustomerUI -bool YES
- I’m not sure if this step is necessary, but I ran it with sudo just to make sure it took
sudo defaults write -g CustomerUI -bool YES
and enter your administrator password
- Restart the Mac
- Re-try the function you were trying in Apple Configurator 2
