As a new owner of an Apple TV, I saw the Bluetooth option where you can add a keyboard to be able to type searches and information. I had a previously owned bluetooth Microsoft Wedge Keyboard, but when I went to pair the keyboard, it wouldn’t pair. It would find the keyboard, but it would never pair.
Luckily, I found out how to pair a Microsoft Wedge Keyboard with the Apple TV.
The Microsoft Wedge Keyboard uses a bluetooth pairing technology called SSP, which is why it is unable to pair with the Apple TV.
If you turn on the keyboard, then hold the FN button while you press the bluetooth button, this will disable SSP in pairing mode. Now go to the Bluetooth menu on your Apple TV and successfully pair it with your Microsoft Wedge Keyboard.
It does work, I spent 1 hour trying to make it work, until I found your info. I was ready to take it back
The keyboard works perfectly with my Ipad, first try, then now the ApplrTV, All I need now is to make it work with my PS4, wish me luck.

I cannot get this to work. I have tried numerous times. Any ideas or maybe Apple figured out a way to not allow this keyboard to work anymore with an update to their OS.
Are you all talking about the 4th generation “New” Apple TV?
This article was written before the new Apple TV came out, so the steps outlined are for the 3rd generation. I don’t have a 4th generation to try it with.

ITS OK! appletv4 + foldable keyboard microsoft
1- keyboard closed, enter options bluethoot in appletv, your apple tv scan device bluethoot.
2- open keyboard, you can see en tv device Foldablekeyboard..relax..push bluethoot button 1 “3 seconds”, you can see flashing light, now only push key FN and in a remote control select this device foldablekeyboard, in this moment you can see a message that you must write 6 numbers + ENTER.

I just did this myself; worked like a charm. To be clear, you need to press and hold the function “Fn” key while at the same time pressing and holding the Bluetooth button for 3-5 seconds, until the indicator above the “7” key flashes alternating green and red.
At first I tried “Fn”-“Bluetooth” once (without holding) and “Fn” once followed by “Bluetooth”, but those did not work. Simply follow the normal instructions for pairing but hold the “Fn” key while pressing the “Bluetooth” button.
