MacOS Tahoe is right around the corner and with the first beta and WWDC announcement, Apple is changing the Launchpad, actually completely replacing it. Instead of the Launchpad in your Dock, you’ll have a shortcut to Spotlight Search Applications tab. While Spotlight Search has improved in MacOS Tahoe, some users prefer accessing their apps through the traditional Launchpad screen.
How To Restore the Launchpad in MacOS Tahoe
These commands work in the first Developer Beta of MacOS, but we don’t know if it’ll work in future betas or the final release of MacOS Tahoe.
- To restore the Launchpad in MacOS Tahoe, open Terminal and run these commands (you’ll need the password of an admin account):
sudo mkdir -p /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/SpotlightUI.plist SpotlightPlus -dict Enabled -bool false - Reboot your Mac
If you want to view all your applications and keep the new Spotlight, you can open Finder and navigate to the Applications directory.
