Today at the JP Morgan Technology, Media & Telecom Conference in Boston, Tami Reller shared some details about the upcoming Windows Blue update that’s coming this year. First of all, Microsoft is considering it an update, not a service pack like we’ve seen with previous versions of Windows. Second, it’ll be called Windows 8.1 and it’ll be available through the Microsoft Store. It’ll be a free update and a consumer preview version will be available for download on June 26th.
The update coincides with the Build Conference and it’ll be available for both Windows 8 and Windows RT.
Microsoft will reveal more features and details in the coming weeks. There have been a few leaks already and even leaked versions of 8.1 on the internet. Some of these features include a way to boot to desktop mode, better search functionality and much more.
