I’ve been a Microsoft Windows user ever since my first computer, which ran Windows 3.1 back in the mid-1990’s. I’ve used a Mac and various Linux distributions, but I’ve always come back to Windows. I have done plenty of Windows installations and Windows upgrades in my time, and have used most of these operating systems.
I remember the first time I tried to do an upgrade and I completely bombed it because I didn’t know what I was doing, it was from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95. I had to end up using the command line to manually transfer files to a floppy disk, then wipe the hard drive and do a clean install of Windows 95. Ahh, the good ol’ days!
This YouTube video shows the upgrade process from the 1985 Windows 1.0 all the way through 2012’s Windows 8. Even though he used VMware to do this video and skipped a few (Windows 3.11, Windows 98SE, etc), it still brought back some memories. Keep in mind, this thing is an hour long if you sit and watch the whole thing!
