In a move that seems Apple-like when it comes to operating system updates, we’ve known for a while now that Microsoft plans to provide updates to Windows 8 in a different manner than what we’re used to. Codenamed Microsoft Blue, Microsoft will be offering future updates to the OS that would include hotfixes as well as new features. Apple offers similar updates to OSX through iTunes. Microsoft could offer (and possibly sell) these updates through the Microsoft Store.
Today, there are rumors floating around the internet that Blue doesn’t just apply to Windows 8, but also Windows Phone, Windows Server and other services such as SkyDrive, Outlook.com, etc. It will more than likely feature UI tweaks and new versions of Microsoft apps. Blue will include some kernel and driver-level updates which could help with battery life and overall performance.
