If you’re a Windows 8 user, you’ll see a couple of app updates available in the Microsoft Store today. Microsoft has released updates to their Maps, Video, and Finance apps. In other news, Microsoft has written a post on the Bing Ads blog, stating that with Windows 8.1, the integrated Bing search engine will also serve ads in your search results.
The Maps app changelog has quite a few new features in this version. These features include venue maps, walking and transit directions, a way to find addresses from a user’s contacts from inside the app, and a way to place favorites inside the maps. Other new features include finding new locations by category, improvements in navigation, and a way to report a problem with a map.
The Video app changelog says “When you buy a TV series, we’ll show your progress in a given episode and highlight the next episode to watch.” The app also has a new way to access search from within the app as well as other unnamed UI enhancements.
The Finance app has been updated as well, but there’s no information on what the update includes or fixes.
Bing Ads in Windows 8.1
Now, with a single campaign setup, advertisers can connect with consumers across Bing, Yahoo! and the new Windows Search with highly relevant ads for their search queries. In addition, Bing Ads will include web previews of websites and the latest features like site links, location and call extensions, making it easier for consumers to complete tasks and for advertisers to drive qualified leads.
