  • Open Settings.
  • Click on Update & security.
  • Click the Check for updates button.
  • After the update finishes downloading and goes through the update installation you’ll be prompted to reboot.

How to install the Windows 10 April 2018 Update with the Update Assistant

How to install the Windows 10 April 2018 Update with the Media Creation Tool

If you’re going to be installing the update to multiple computers, the best route might be to use the Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB drive that you can use. You can also use this tool to upgrade the PC immediately like the methods above.

  • Download the Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft support website.
  • Double-click the MediaCreationTool.exe file to start the process.
  • Click the Accept button to agree to the terms.
  • Select the Upgrade this PC now option or create a bootable USB if you’re going to upgrade multiple PCs.

Disk Cleanup

After you install a Feature Update, it is a good idea to run the Disk Cleanup tool once you verify everything is working and you’re comfortable that you won’t need to go back to the previous version of Windows. The update creates a Windows.old directory that is used to restore your PC to the previous build of Windows 10. This directory can take up over 20GB of space on your hard drive.

  • Click Start and type Disk Cleanup and click on the first desktop application that appears.
  • Click the button Clean Up System Files (also select the C drive if you have multiple hard drives).
  • Check all of the boxes in the Files To Delete window, but the main one to look for is Previous Windows Installations.
  • Then click OK.
